EPL PROJECT

Vision statment: To provide the homeless with more shoes to wear.

Need: Many families living on the streets in Columbus have no shoes to wear on their feet. There's around five different shelters and clothing places for the homeless that I will be working with to deliver shoes to their facilities in order to provide these people with shoes.

Process: My plan is to collect shoes from people in my highschool and the schools around my community to help out with this process. I will get a team together of around 10 students to help out with the collection process. I want to get as many people as possible involved throughout my community in order to make this a group effort. We as a group will relace the shoes, spray/clean them, and box them up to look almost new. We then will deliver these shoes to the people in need of them at the shelters around Columbus.

Goals/measuring level of success:
-collect at least 1,000 pairs of shoes
-have a well known shoe company sponsor us such as: Nike, Famous Footwear, Front Runner, etc.
-have at least 10 participants helping out with leading the project
-be present at as many sporting events and Columbus marathons/physical activities to collect shoes and get people involved

With summer ending the cold season will soon be here and it is with hard work and a group effort that we can help provide the homeless with shoes to wear during the upcoming cold months. This project will take lots of work but I have confidence in my community and my idea that this can and will work. I will be working with Sharron Allen from The Free Store to help with the project and use her as my source of connection along with the staff at First Community Church that is in charge of the program Take it To The Streets. I will also be using Mrs. Calcara, my school counselor as my liason to help with the money situation and other things that might be of need.

Back from EPL

Just got back from EPL at Furman...it was a ton of fun and I made a lot of really good friends. Right away coming home I had lots of idea sworming through my head and after sorting them all out I came up with an entirely new project, so we'll see how that goes. I'm now thinking of doing a project for the homeless instead of working with immigration, but that might change. I've talked/met with some people since I've been home and will most likely have a vision, jusitifcation, and basic idea of my project, done before school starts in August. So things are running smoothly - hope everyone is enjoying the rest of their summer!
